Some aggrieved residents of Gwagwalada and traders at the Gwagwalada main market have petitioned the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) under the Abuja Development Control over the “illegal” recontruction and modernisation of the market.

The residents and traders in the petition signed on their behalf by Alhaji Yusuf Mustapha and Alhaji Ishaaqu Aliyu and which was also copied to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory Malam Bala Muhammed said that if the recontruction of the market is allowed to go on it will pose a great enviromental hazard to them.

They claimed that there is no approved building plan by the Development Control before the “Developers, Finamedia Global Services, embarked on the recontruction”.

They also said the market is being reconstructed without provision for good drainage, security post, fire fighting station and good layout.

“We wish to appeal to you to immediately come and inspect the market with a team of your professionals and experts so as to enable you consider and takes the appropriate actions and correct all environmental hazards, the illegal and substandard structures therein and restore the market to the required standard so as to forestall the imminent danger posed to lives and properties of the innocent citizens”, they said.
