UPN accuses INEC of circulating fake candidates’ list
The Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) yesterday alleged that the current list of candidates purportedly released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the forthcoming general elections was fake.
The Ogun state chairman of the party Prince Shoye Oyebuga and the governorship candidate, Prince Rotimi Paseda made the allegation at a news briefing and formal presentation of the party’s candidates for the elections.
The duo said checks from the electoral body indicated that the current list of candidates, which did not have the candidates of the UPN was fake. “We have made our findings and INEC has told us that they are not aware of the release of candidates in Ogun state.
“We don’t know where they have gotten the list in circulation. But INEC has said the names of all candidates shall be released appropriately and we can assure you that UPN candidates shall be included. We do not have any fears on that,” Paseda said.
He said the list of the candidates according to electoral guidelines should be made available through the media and duly acknowledged by the electoral body. “It is going to be published in the dailies and we are all going to see it”, he said.
The governorship candidate, who formally presented his running mate, Alhaja Olamide Olatunbosun, assured his members that the party had come to stay with late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s legacies.
Last week, the electoral body had an unsigned list in circulation in Ogun state and the candidates for the UPN were missing.
