Fuel price decrease not politically motivated - PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the decrease of fuel price from N97 to 87 was not politically motivated.
According to the party, Nigerians would continue to witness more fuel price decrease as long as the price of oil in the international market continued to crash.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, told newsmen yesterday in Abuja that the decrease had nothing to do with the forthcoming general elections.
“In this particular instance, oil price crashed in the world and the government and the Minister of Petroleum have come up with a position that based on the international price of oil, there will be a reduction in Nigeria. It has nothing to do with election. If the oil price remains as it is, Nigerians will be yearning for more decrease and there cannot be any justification for any increase.
“This government cannot increase this fuel price as long as the price remains as it is in the world market. What Nigerians should be asking for now is a complete deregulation of the industry so that it will be reflective of the world price,” he said.
The party, he said, would not sanction former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his frequent criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan, saying: “We have respect for Obasanjo. We can’t question him in public. We can only engage him privately.”
