Most petroleum marketers in the country have not adjusted their pump price downward to reflect the N87 per litre of product as announced by the federal government on Sunday.

Checks by our reporters in various states revealed that majority of the marketers were reluctant to adjust their pumps yesterday despite the directives by Minister of Petroleum resources, Mrs Diezani Alison Madueke.

Most petrol stations in Abuja did not adjust to the new fuel pump price after government’s directive for a reduction in the pump price of Petrol from the current N97 per litre down to N87 gave a mid-night deadline.

Several filling stations monitored by our correspondent yesterday afternoon and evening in the city still sold at N97 respectively.

Our reporter who monitored petrol stations along airport road yesterday afternoon reported that stations owned by independent marketers were still dispensing at N97 per litre as only NNPC mega stations sold petrol for N87.

In Kano, the filling stations were yet to drop the new price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol from N97 to N87.

Our correspondent who went round some of the filling stations in Kano metropolis reports that most of the filling stations were, as the time of filing this report, still selling at N97 and in some places N107 against the new pump price of N87.

A manager at one of the private filling stations along Gwarzo road, Kano told Daily Trust that he didn’t know about the new pump price.

“I only heard about the new price of N87 per litre from the motorists this morning, since I am unaware of the new price I cannot just affect the changes without the consent of my boss, so I am waiting for his approval,” the manager who didn’t want his name in print said.

In Kaduna the petrol price reduction was yet to take effect as motorists still fuelled for N97 per litre.

A motorist who fuelled at the Total Filling Station in Kaduna at about 9:00 am said he bought the petrol at N97 per litre and not the N87 as announced by the government.

The reduction in the pump price of petroleum from N97 to N87 has generated mixed reactions in Kwara State even as most filling stations were yet to comply with the new pump price.

However, our correspondent reported that filling stations in Kwara State have not complied with the new price as most marketers said they were yet to exhaust the stock bought at old rate. In Imo state the story was the same as the price of petrol, the product is still at the former price of N97. Only NNPC Mega station had adjusted pumps to the new price of N87. Also our correspondent observed at some filling stations in Ado Ekiti yesterday that motorists bought the product at the old price. At few filling stations that adjusted to reflect the new price, there were long queues of motorists.

Speaking with our correspondent, attendants at filling stations visited said they had not been instructed to adjust to the new price.

In Port Harcourt, major filling stations still sold fuel at N100 per liter. A visit to major filling stations in Port Harcourt yesterday by our correspondent showed that all the filling stations were yet to adjust their pump prices to the new price regime.
