The National Executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intervened in what a source called, “minor problem” in the Kwara State chapter of the party.

The main agenda of the reconciliatory move was the crisis between the party leadership in the state and a chieftain of the party, Senator Gbemi Saraki, who was recently rumoured to be on her way out of the party.

Though Gbemi has denied plans of leaving the party, she was said to have felt belittled by the party leadership’s action of not according her due respect as one of them.

Daily Trust learnt that Gbemi is currently in Abuja on invitation of the national leadership of the party.

“We hope her meeting with the party’s leadership in Abuja would pacify her and end the widespread rumour of her impending defection,” said a source privy to the matter.

Besides the fencemending mission in Abuja, our correspondent learnt that the party’s elders’ council has intervened in the matter and scheduled a meeting with the former senator who contested for the governorship ticket of the party.

Chairman of the elders’ council, Alhaji Folorunsho Ayinla, confirmed the development to Daily Trust, appealing to Gbemi Saraki and other aggrieved members not to dump the party.

“We are pleading not only to her but to all those who contested and lost. We want to tell them to stay in the party. For some time, she has not been around but since she came, we have tried to get her but she has not been chanced.

“In a contest where there are many people, there were about 13 of them, only one person won and we appealed to others to remain in the party and they abided by the appeal. Now that she is around, we appeal to her also to remain in the party.”
