I@LatifatOpoola n Nigeria where the cost of starting a business is increasingly on the rise, there is that one business that does notn need that much start-up capital-Bead making, Habiba Abdulrafiu, operator of Orion Creation has said.

The Economics graduate of University of Abuja, who spoke with YOUTHVILLE recently narrate how she left corporate jobs to crafts works with just two weeks lessons to perfect her skills in making beads.

She said, “Although I started while I was still in secondary School, I further enrolled for a two week training which perfected my skills.”

Habiba recalled how she started making beads with N500 noting that interest in the business is always key for every entrepreneur that truly wants to succeed. “One must be interested in a trade to make success, do not be lured to go into the business because of the monetary gains,” she said.

“When I tell people my start-up capital was N500, they would ask how come? Really it’s not all about starting big, but ‘Starting Small and Thinking Big,” Habiba said.

The bead-maker who admitted that bead-making fetches quite some fortune added that one can sell a bead for a thousand naira but the individual taste matters, hence the cost varies.

Habiba who justified her love for crafts work also said, “I love Working with my hands and Creating my own Style, and I want to impact to others. I am aiming at having a standard training centre where people can be trained on both beads/ creative art generally For Them to be able to make their own designs.”

For young starters, Habiba said the equipment needed to get started include cutter, beads of different kinds, strings and hooks of various colours.

The young entrepreneur who stresses on the need to take profitable risks in business said “We all need to take risk and calculate our risks.”

Habiba urges starters not to push blame to others or complain about what refused to work in their growing ventures.

“Get a mentor! Don’t tell lies about your status. Appreciate every progress, celebrate every success and learn from every failure. Remember, those who are not emotionally matured recede, they don’t advance. Besides, your creativity won’t thrive where there is no confident character to back it up,” were her words.
