My defeat, will of God – Yuguda
he Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda has congratulated presidentelect, General Muhammadu Buhari and Mallam Ali Wakili, who defeated him in the last National Assembly elections.
Yuguda congratulated them yesterday while addressing newsmen at the Government House. He also appealed to all aggrieved PDP contestants in the state who lost in the election to accept defeat, saying there will be another opportunity to contest election.
The governor described his defeat in the National Assembly Election as the will of God, said he has never been sad over election results, that instead he is glad that other young politicians have been given opportunity to serve.
“The just concluded electoral process in the country has proved to everyone that God gives power to whom he pleases, therefore nobody should feel aggrieved about the outcome of the election in the state. All contestants who lost in the election should accept defeat in good fate and avoid going to court. There should not be any bitterness in politics, especially if you lose. We should learn from the doggedness and resilience nature of General Buhari, who has been contesting the seat of the presidency since 2003 and has never shown bitterness towards his opponent,” he said.
He added: “I have served the people of Bauchi State as governor for eight years and during my tenure I did my best to protect lives and property, which was the oath I took when I assumed office. If I have fallen short of my responsibilities in anyway, I plead with people of the state to forgive me”.
Yuguda commiserated with families of soldiers and civilians who lost their lives while battling insurgents in Alkaleri, Kirfi and Bauchi Local Government Areas during the election, adding that curfew imposed on those areas will be relaxed.
The governor commended the people for their peaceful conduct during the election and urged them to replicate same during the governorship and state Assembly election.
