Kebbi: Sambo heads to tribunal

- From Garba Muhammad, Birnin Kebbi

A defeated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for Bunza/ Kalgo/Birnin Kebbi Federal Constituency, Barrister Aliyu Sambo, is set to challenge the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Abdullahi Muslim who won at the election.

Musa Dan’Ilela had won the primaries, but Barrister Sambo had dragged Sani Kalgo to a Federal High Court in Abuja on December 31 and another in Sokoto sometime in January for emerging candidate despite allegedly not participating in the primaries.

Lawyers who are following the case told our correspondent that, Dan’Ilela was joined as fourth defendant with PDP and INEC in the Abuja suit.

Sambo, Kalgo and Dan’Ilela all of the PDP are laying claim to the seat.

Sambo, who spoke to our correspondent on phone yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, said he has secured a judgment from a Federal High Court in Abuja, declaring him the lawful and authentic candidate of the PDP for the contentious House of Representatives seat.

“Yes, I have secured judgment from a High Court in Abuja and I also have the mandate to challenge the APC candidate who won in the Saturday election. It is not yet uhuru for the APC candidate, because I am heading to the election tribunal in Kebbi to challenge his election,” he added.

The APC candidate Muslim could not be reached for comments. He did not respond to calls and text messages sent to his number as at the time of filing this report .
