Gov’t tasked on promoting local technology
Apolytechnic don from the Federal Polytechnic in Bida, Engr. Peter Toba has tasked governments at various levels on promoting local technology in the country. Speaking during an interview with our student reporter, Engr. Toba said, “Engineers are dynamic and are concerned about solving human problems. The School of Engineering here is dedicated to and must achieve, not considering the different challenges faced by it.”
The School of Engineering Dean said students have been able to come up with inventions that could be of great importance to the community and the nation at large. Part of such inventions is an inverter which converts direct current into alternative current and this requires encouragement for further research work.
Engr. Toba also said the School discovered the use of dung to generate gas and that it has been experimented successfully by the students in the laboratory. This discovery will cut down expenses and also make life easier.
He expressed concerns over the inventions not been given a face lift by governments to promote local technology in the country.
‘Ironically, most of these inventions have not been given a second thought which has caused a lot of discouragement for the students,’ he noted.
The Dean suggested that the institution should organize exhibitions to create avenues to display the invented products which may draw the attention of interest groups for commercial sponsorship.
