LMC can’t extend league season for election -Dikko
Chairman of the League Management Company, Shehu Dikko told Daily Trust yesterday that there wouldn’t be any extension to the ongoing 2014/2015 Nigeria premier league season in spite of the three weeks break due to elections.
The former NFF presidential aspirant said provisions were already in place for adjustments in cases like the elections and other unforeseen circumstances.
“No we don’t need to have an extended season because our programme schedule already has provisions for adjustments in anticipation of this type of unforeseen circumstances, so there wouldn’t be any issue,” Dikko said.
The Week 4 fixtures of the Nigerian top flight which was originally scheduled for this weekend will now be played on Sunday, April 19, 2015 with the date for Week 5 fixtures yet to be released.
An earlier statement from the office of the Chief Operating Officer of the League Management Company (LMC), Salihu Abubakar, said the games have been rescheduled sequel to the directive of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) fixing all States’ FA Cup finals for the weekend of April 4 and 5.
Abubakar also said the rescheduling would allow the players and club officials participate fully in the on-going national elections and also allow clubs on continental engagements focus on reaching the next stage of their various competitions.
