‘We’ll criticise Buhari if he fails on campaign promises’

- By Balarabe Alkassim

Members of a Buhari support group said that they will not hesitate to criticise retired General Muhammadu Buhari’s administration if it deviates and fails to give Nigerians what it has promised them.

The group, “Buhari Global Support Group” at a press conference in Abuja yesterday stated that although they supported Buhari and campaigned for him, that would not stop them from addressing any wrong done by his administration.

National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Aja N. Aja said they must keep a close watch on the government.

He said the group would continue to monitor developments and also called on Nigerians to support the incoming government.

“For now, we are partners in progress when they do it right. If they do it wrong, we say no. So, we are going to be a pressure group both for the government and against the government as the occasion may demand.

“Not only the promises, even the virtues that we believe they represent. There are things that they believe: Honesty and sincerity. If by chance at all, they deviate from it, we will call a press conference like this and we will tell the world…that is not the way to go. That is what we are going to do from now henceforth,” the group said.

The group described their decision as being self appointed guardians of what Buhari stood for so that if he or his team go outside the compass, they would remind them about the right thing to do.

Another member of the group, Barrister Tony Idoko, said they believed in the integrity of the presidentelect, saying that they have never doubted it.
