‘Lalong is a true respecter of rule of law’
Newly sworn in Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Chief Dan Dul, yesterday, described the Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, as a true democrat and a respecter of the rule of Law.
Dul’s mandate as chairman of Langtang North local government was restored to him by Lalong, last week, in compliance with the judgement of the LGA appeal tribunal which upheld his election last year. The previous administration of Jonah Jang prevented him from assuming office, despite the tribunal’s order and, instead, recognised Godwin Nanmwa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the elected chairman.
Dul, in a statement, applauded Lalong for taking the path of justice and restoring to him his mandate, an action that he said will strengthen democracy in the state. It said that the governor’s background as a lawyer and a onetime chairman of Conference of Nigeria’s Speakers Forum, “the apex law making body in the country and by respecting the court judgment, you have demonstrated that you are a lawyer per excellence, leader, true democrat and a respecter of the rule of law.”
The statement thanked the electorates of Langtang North LGA for remaining peaceful and patient, urging them to continue to be law abiding and support the administrations at the state and local government levels in order to deliver the dividends of democracy.
The statement said Dul’s administration would be an all inclusive one, devoid of discrimination, irrespective of political party affiliation.
