ASO CHRONICLE Police drag nurse to court for stealing iPad

23-year-old nurse has been arraigned before an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for allegedly stealing an iPad phone at Kubwa, a satellite town in the FCT.

Chukwu Ogechukwu of Kukwaba area of Kubwa was charged with theft, an offence contrary to Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Sandra Oparaugo, told the court that one Mercy Anthony of Dutse Makaranta, reported at the Kubwa Police Station of how the accused acted in a dubious manner and dishonestl­y stole her iPad phone valued at N45,000 kept on the table in her tailor’s shop without her consent.

When the charge was read to the accused, she pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 by Judge Mohammed Marafa with one reasonable surety, who must be a Civil Servant resident within the court’s jurisdicti­on.

The case was adjourned to June 10, for hearing.

Similarly, a 22-year-old man was arraigned before the same court for allegedly stealing a generating set in the same area.

Murtala Umar of Byazhin Kubwa was charged with joint act and theft, offences contrary to Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The police

prosecutor, Lukas Ephraim, told the court that one Oluchi Nwachukwu of Kubwa, complained at the Kubwa Police Station of how the accused and others presently at large dishonestl­y stole her generator valued at N14,000.

He said he was however caught and arrested while attempting to escape with the stolen item.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and the Judge, Mohammed Marafa, granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with one reasonable surety, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdicti­on.

The case was adjourned to July 13, for hearing.
