As part of its social services, Oando Foundation said it has expended N18million to rehabilitate infrastructural facilities at the Zumuratul Islamiyah (ZI) Primary School 1, Akute in Ogun state.

Head of the Foundation, Adekanla Adegoke disclosed this recently during a visit to the school noting that the effort will be impacting on the lives of 800 pupils and teachers in the school.

Oando Foundation is the social service arm of oil and gas giant, Oando Gas and Power Plc with its head office in Lagos. It picked the schools as it is within the community where its subsidiary, Akute Power Plant is sited.

Explaining the spending Adegoke said, “Oando Foundation deployed both technical and material resources to renovate the school. The commissioning of the school buildings was planned to coincide with a series of celebrations for Children’s Day, a day set aside to honour children globally.

“In all, we have a total of 10 classrooms, the Head teacher’s office and the staff room renovated. The project encompassed the removal and installation of new windows, doors, terrazzo flooring, PVC sealing, painting, and electrification of the school,” she said.

The foundation said with the support of employee volunteers, it also donated learning materials, school supplies, clothing and gift items to students and teachers and closed the day with the delivery of motivational speeches to pupils.

Since inception in 2011, Oando Foundation has adopted 58 schools in 23 states with plans to adopt 100 schools by 2015.
