NAPTIP warns against child abuse
The Director, Public Enlightenment Department of National Agency for Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP), Mr. Orakwue Arinze, has called on parents to be vigilant on any form of abuse on their children.
This was disclosed at a one day sensitization exercise on child labour and trafficking, organised by Editorial Community Development Service (CDS) group of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).
The event held at Government Secondary School Garki, Area10, Abuja was to commemorate this year’s World Day Against Child Labour and Trafficking,with the theme ‘Say No to Traffick, Yes to Quality Education.’
According to him, there are different ways in which a child can be abused and urged parents to desist from leaving their children at the mercy of house help.
The president of Editorial CDS group, Mr. Okoro Tochukwu James, said the whole idea behind the project is giving back to the community and since June 12 is World Child Day,we decided to hold a programme that will be beneficial to the youths by partnering with NAPTIP.
Okoli James appealled to the youth not to allow anyone compel them to do anything against their wish, adding that any threat against their rights should be reported to NAPTIP and other relevant bodies. Edache Ene, an SS2 student said ‘the event has helped her to acquire more knowledge on rights of a child.’
