Housewife to hang for killing mate’s son

he Benue State High Court has sentenced a housewife to death by hanging for killing her mate’s one-year-old baby.

Mrs. Ternenge Terso was found guilty and convicted for the crime which was said to have been committed in 2012.

The court heard that the matter was reported to the police by the convict’s husband, Mr. Terso.

It was gathered that she strangled the baby at their home in Vandeikya Local Government Area.

The husband, in his report to the police, said he lived with the convict for over seven years without a child, after which he took a second wife, who gave birth to the baby boy that was killed.

The woman however denied killing the child. She testified for herself and called no witness to support her claim.

But prosecution called two witnesses including the investigating police officer who tendered a medical report of the autopsy carried out on the deceased child at the General Hospital in Vandeikya.

The presiding judge, Justice Jennifer Ijohor, said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt to warrant the conviction.

The judge advised barren women to look up to God, instead of engaging in nefarious acts.

The convicted woman has been committed to the federal minimum prison in Makurdi, awaiting death by hanging.
