Rep rejects defection of Jigawa PDP stalwarts Fayose faults appointing caretaker committees for LGAs
A member of the House of Representatives from Jigawa State, Muhammad Gudaji Kazaure, has kicked against a planned defection of some stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker, representing Kazaure/Roni/ Gwiwa/Yankwashi Federal Constituency, was reacting to a story in the Daily Trust which indicated that some high profile PDP members in the state have perfected plans to join the APC.
He said all the 11 House of Representatives members from the state were inundated with calls from their constituents who were against the purported move.
He said: “Our constituents have rejected the planned defection. The people of Jigawa have suffered for 8 years in the hands of the PDP and they struggled during the recent elections to change the government.
“Some people were maimed and some even lost their lives in the struggle to oust these people (PDP). Their coming into APC will only signal a bad omen.” Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has condemned the use of caretaker committees to administer local government areas, describing the action as an aberration that must be discouraged, through the conduct of election into the third tier of government.
Fayose stated this, weekend, while featuring on the monthly radio/ television programme titled: “Governor Explains,” in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of the state.
The governor said that local governments must be strengthened, adding: “Local government structure must be enhanced and I am not part of those who want to use caretaker committees to administer local government when there are no issues hindering the conduct of election.”
