Wikki dim Sunshine as Enyimba maintain lead

Enyimba Football Club of Aba yesterday pulled a goalless draw against Sharks FC in Port Harcourt to maintain their grip on the Nigeria Premier League top spot with 49 points, while Wikki Tourist dimmed second placed Sunshine Stars 2-1 in Bauchi.

With the draw, Enyimba increased their points lead from two to three just as Wikki keep their chase for a continenta­l ticket with goals by Victor Yakubu and Mubarak Umar in the 13th and 16th minutes of the game while Dele Olulundare reduced the tally for the Akure gunners in the 45th minute of the encounter.

In Lafia, Nasarawa United disunited Kwara with three goals in a game that witnessed the sending off of Kwara United Mohammed Abdullahi in the 43rd minute.

Esosa Igbinoba opened the scores sheet for his side in the 16th minute while Ugochukwu Leonard got the second goal in the 40th minute and four minutes later scored from the spot after he was brought down in the box by Mohammed Abdullahi to register the third goal.

Two late goals gave Giwa FC its victory against Lobi Stars of Makurdi in Jos, Hassan Abubakar and Aminu Mbai ensured the stars returned home empty handed when they scored in the 83rd and 88th minutes of the game to give the tin city side the maximum points at stake.

The relegation woes of Bayelsa United continued with a lone goal loss to FC IfeanyiUba­h in Nnewi with Meshack Chukwubuik­em scoring for the oil millionair­es in the 8th minute to continue their good run in the league.

In Ibadan, Sunday Adetunji’s brace assisted Shooting Stars to disarm Abia Warriors 2-0. Adetunji scored in the 29th and 90th minute to seal victory for the Ibadan soccer lords.

Heartland FC piped Warri Wolves 1-0 in Owerri, with Bright Ejike’s strike in the 30th minute of the match while Dolphins raised their hope of moving out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory against Akwa United in a game that goalkeeper­s of the two sides saved penalty kicks.

Omo Johnson and Oduokpe Oghogho scored for Dolphins in the 45th and 75th minutes while Akwa United goalkeeper Femi Kayode palmed away a Jonathan Zikiye spot kick in the 39th minute just as Godwin Ayalogu in goal for Dolphins denied the visitors the chance of reducing the tally when saved Nnamso Edo spot kick.

FC Taraba defeated Kano Pillars 1-0 in Jalingo with Stephen Adah effort in the 31st minute while El-Kanemi forced Rangers to a 2-2 in Katsina.
