‘I stole my neighbour’s tyre to treat my leg injury’

A 26-year-old mechanic has confessed before an Abuja grade 1 area court that he stole the tyre of his neighbour’s vehicle to enable him treat a leg injury he sustained.

Nura Sani of Galadima Junction, Abuja, was convicted for criminal trespass and theft, offences contrary to sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Arziki Kaura, told the court that one Sunday Onoja of same address, on August 25, complained at the Dutsen-Alhaji station of how the accused, criminally entered into his workshop at night and made away with his car’s tyre valued at N42,000

He said the accused confessed to the crime during police investigat­ion.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five months imprisonme­nt by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with a fine option of N15, 000.

The court also ordered that he paid a compensati­on fee of N42, 000.

Similarly, a 21-year-old scavenger was sentenced to five months imprisonme­nt by the same court for stealing a copper wire in Karsana, in Abuja Municipal Area of the FCT.

Isiaka Ibrahim of Dutsen-Alhaji was convicted for joint act and theft, offences contrary to sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Arziki Kaura, told the court that one Liberty Idris, of Blue Fountain Estate, Karsana, Abuja, on August 25, complained at the DutsenAlha­ji Police Station how the accused, on same date, trespassed into his estate with onother person now at large and stole his copper wire valued at N20,000.

He said the accused was caught in the act and the said item recovered.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five months imprisonme­nt by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with a fine option of N5, 000.
