Kuruduma residents lament incessant robbery

Residents of Kuruduma area of Asokoro have decried incessant robbery attacks in the area.

One of the residents, who did not want his name mentioned, said that armed robbers broke into his house and threatened to kill members of his household.

The victim said that the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, adding that the robbers tied them with ropes.

He said: “They spent more than one hour, locked us inside and took everything in the house. As a trader, I always come home with the money we make daily. They took more than two million naira cash from the house.”

Another victim, Mr. Michael Alfaki, said that his car was broken into and laptops, handsets and money were taken away from his car.

He said when he reported the matter to the Asokoro police, they asked him to write a statement and go home but nothing happened since then, while other armed robbers broke into his house, again, and stole his property.

Alfaki called on the police to increase their presence in the area to help reduce the incidents of robbery in Kuruduwa area of Asokoro.

When the FCT police public relations officer, Assistant Superinten­dent Anjuguri Manzah, was contacted, he told our reporter that he was not aware of the incidents, adding, however, that acting on a tipoff, the FCT police operatives attached to Asokoro Division have recovered an abandoned locally made revolver short gun with seven live cartridges concealed in a bag at Kuruduma area.

Chief Superinten­dent Grace Longe, the Asokoro divisional police officer, confirmed one of the incidents, saying that he asked the complainan­t how he went to sleep without removing his laptop computer and phones from his car.

She said that the police were working to stop armed robbers from disturbing residents.
