Presidency: Aso Villa Chapel not shut

- By Isiaka Wakili

The Presidency has denied the speculation that the Aso Rock Villa Chapel has been closed down.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, posted on his Facebook page yesterday, photographs from Sunday’s church service held at the chapel.

The acting Chaplain of the Aso Villa Chapel, Pastor Joseph Sheyi Malomo also told State House journalists after yesterday’s service that the rumour of the closure of the chapel was the handiwork of mischief makers.

The chapel, situated at the backyard of the president’s official residence, is the official Christian worship centre of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The chaplain said though there were some procedural issues last Sunday that needed to be sorted out, at no time did the Presidency order the closure of the chapel.

He asked Nigerians to ignore the rumour of the closure of the chapel and focus on issues that would unite the nation.

Our correspondent reports that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was not at the chapel for yesterday’s service.

In his sermon titled “Securing the glorious destiny of out posterity,” the chaplain said the country had a glorious destiny which he described as unique.

The first Bible reading was taken from 2 Samuel 3:1-3; and the second, Job 1:1-5 and Psalm 139 from verse 14 and 15.
