Ambode has achieved nothing in 100 days – PDP

- From Abdullateef Aliyu, Lagos

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State says nothing has been achieved in the 100 days of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration in the state.

Chairman of the party, retired Captain Olatunji Shelle, told our correspondent in Lagos that the inactivity of the administration in the past 100 days would tell on the state’s social infrastructure and amenities.

He said apart from the proposed construction of a sea port at Ipeju in Gbadagry which he said was a misplaced priority, no visible achievement was recorded by Ambode in the 100 days.

“I have not even seen anything he has done so far. I can’t see any visible thing on ground that I can start commenting on apart from the fact that he wants to embark on this sea port at Ipeju in Badagry which is a very expensive project to embark upon. That’s not the kind of project he should start with. He may have it in his plans but there are so many other things to attend to at this stage”, he said.

He said the absence of commissioners and other appointees who were expected to drive policies and programmes of governmentalsocontributed to the “quietness” of the administration. He reiterated that “apart from just asking people to go and remove their vehicles at Ijora”, no tangible feat could be attributed to the governor in 100 days.

Shelle added, “By the time he starts constructing roads, he starts repairing roads, making the rural areas accessible, one would be able to talk but he hasn’t done anything of such. Even the local government elections they are supposed to conduct, they are still reluctant in doing so. So I can’t see what they have done so far and this portends that a lot of things would have been grounded that they won’t be able to handle them.

“If you allow a road to deteriorate to a bad extent by the time you embark on reconstruction, it now becomes so expensive. We may not be able to do it the way it should be done. I want to expect them to start doing little, little thing so that by the time they embark on projects, one would be able to judge them”, he said.

Responding, the Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said there was no truth in the claims, adding that the party should not be dignified with any response.

According to him, Lagos remains the pride and glory of Nigeria. He added that the PDP was crying wolf because they were not allowed to destroy Lagos.
