Abia gov commiserates with fire victims TetFund spends N2bn in Jigawa college
Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has commiserated with victims of the fire incident that occurred along the AbaOwerri road at the weekend. It was gathered that seven vehicles, three tricycles and many residential buildings were destroyed when a tanker conveying premium motor spirit exploded. He assured the victims of government’s support.
The governor also used the occasion to warn tanker drivers and others conveying inflammable products along major roads to do so with caution. He directed all security agencies and regulatory bodies to monitor tanker and trailer drivers to ensure that only those who are qualified ply the highways. The governor further called on people of the state to obey traffic rules. The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund) has spent N2 billion on the College of Education (COE), Gumel in Jigawa State.
Provost of the College, Dr. Dahiru Abdulkadir, who made the disclosure at the weekend while briefing newsmen, said the fund was used for execution of various infrastructural projects as well as capacity and manpower development.
He said the projects executed include rehabilitation and construction of student’s hostels, classrooms, 200 and 300 capacity lecture halls, laboratories and expansion of e-library to 2,000 seater capacity.
“We commend TETFUND and Jigawa State government for making it possible for us to have the required facilities and qualified lecturers to compete favourably with our counterparts in the country,” he said.
