- By Abubakar SadiqIsah

Achairmanship aspirant in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Salihu S. Kakamba, has called on other politicians and residents of the area to unite irrespective of tribe, religion and ethnic differences for the development of the council.

Speaking on Saturday at the first edition of a football competition he organised in the area, Kakamba noted that the society would only witness development when there is peace and unity among the people.

He said there was need for citizens to learn how to live together as brothers, sisters and friends, adding that everybody must be concerned about others’ wellbeing.

According to him, the football competition was aimed at uniting the youth for the purpose of achieving peaceful co-existence amongst them, especially as they are the leaders of tomorrow.

“We must learn to live together as brothers and friends or we all perish together as fools. And we must all be concerned about others irrespective of our religious, ethnic and political differences”, he said.

The chairmanship aspirant commended all teams that participated in the tournament, while urging the organising committee to commence preparations for another competition ahead of next year.

Also, the secretary of Abaji Local Education Authority (LEA), Alhaji Hassan Suleiman, who was the chairman of the occasion, commended the organising committee for ensuring that the competition ended peacefully.

He congratulated the team that emerged winner, as well as other participants who exhibited maturity and sportsmanship during the competition.

The final match, which ended in a penalty shootout, saw the Police Machine Football Club defeat Suitor Academy Football Club by 5 goals to 4. Trophies and prizes were given to first, second and third positions.
