Awolowo for burial Nov. 25

Strong indication­s emerged yesterday that the matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief (Mrs) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, who died on Saturday, will be buried on her centenary birthday, November 25.

Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, had proposed the date during his visit to the family last Saturday. However, the eldest daughter of the deceased, Mrs. Omotola Oyediran, confirmed an earlier newspaper report of the burial date yesterday.

Oyediran who was responding to the remarks made by the immediate past president,

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan said, “By the grace of God, we haven’t concluded the arrangemen­ts but I will let you know that the very day that she was supposed to be 100 years, she would be buried. There will be dancing amid tears at the burial of who I call Iya niwura.”

Mrs. Awolowo, who was the Yeye Oodua, died at her residence 67 days to her centenary birthday.
