3 held for selling 2 week-old baby

Three persons including a traditiona­l doctor were yesterday paraded by the police before journalist­s in Lagos for allegedly selling a two week-old baby.

The Commission­er of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who paraded them, said the doctor was behind the sale of the baby while the two others, a couple, were the buyers. The doctor allegedly sold the baby to them for N136,000.

Owoseni identified the suspects as Onolaja Olawale, the doctor and Mr. and Mrs Ayogbinle, the couple. He also identified the parents of the baby as Idiatu and Akinola Babatunde. The baby has been returned to her parents, he said.

The doctor admitted collecting N136,000 from Mr. And Mrs Ayogbinle, but claimed it was meant to facilitate the procuremen­t of adoption papers from the Lagos State government.

Robbers attack bullion van, kill 2 cops, others From Itodo Daniel Sule, Lokoja

A gang of armed robbers yesterday attacked a commercial bank bullion van at Ogaminana in Adavi LGA of Kogi State, killing two policemen and two bank workers.

A witness said the robbers who struck at about 10:00am made away with N25 million meant for salaries of local government workers.

Police spokesman, Williams Aya, who confirmed the incident, said no arrest had yet been made at press time. The robbery came 24 hours after the state police commission­er, Emmanuel Ojukwu, paraded 72 criminal suspects, declaring ‘total war’ on criminals in the state.
