Imo to concession 28 paratatals, health facilities
The Imo State government said arrangements have been concluded to concession 28 parastatals and 12 health facilities in the state.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sam Onwuemeodo in Owerri yesterday said the decision is to inject life into them and make them effective.
He said most of the parastatals and health facilities have continued to enjoy government’s subvention without any thing to show for it.
“Even those of them expected to earn revenue by virtue of their status to support themselves have not been forthcoming”, he said.
Parastatals to be concessioned include Imo Newspapers, Imo Orientation Agency, NEPAD, Imo ADP, Agric Loans Board, Water Corporation, PFMU and PSGRDP, Consumer Protection Council, Council for Arts and Culture, Sports Council, Tourism Board, Zoological Garden, Library Board, Job Centre and Investment Promotion Agency.
Others are the state Directorate for Employment, Okigwe Cattle Market, Imo Livestock, Ministry of Agric and Natural Resources Shop, Niger-Delta Bureau, Poverty Alleviation Bureau, IWADA, Bureau for Public Procurement and Price Intelligence, ENTRACO, Imo Marketing Company, Imo Blue Lake Oguta and Imo Essential Drug.
He said the Youth Must Work Scheme was dissolved with the aim of re-organising it. He however noted that primary and secondary school teachers recruited under the scheme are not affected by the exercise.
