Movement of petrol via railway begins soon
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) said it now has capacity to move petroleum products from various tank farms in Lagos State to all parts of Nigeria.
The corporation has therefore commenced talks with oil marketers in the country on how to effectively lift the products. Spokesman of the NRC, Mr. Abdulraouf Akinwoye, told Daily Trust in Lagos.
This is expected to reduce the number of petrol tankers on the highways and subsequent crashes.
Apart from the movement of petroleum, the NRC has also commenced movement of cement. As part of measures to beef up the manpower of the corporation to ensure seamless conduct of its activities, the spokesman said the corporation is currently recruiting 1500 junior staff in three different districts.
