Cultural group laments ‘poor governance’ in Kwara
Orisun Igbomina, a Kwara-based socio-cultural organisation, said it will continue speaking with one voice against what it described as ‘bad governance’ in Kwara.
The president of the group, Gbenga Awoyale, stated this in llorin, yesterday, in a statement he issued.
The statement said the organisation will not relent in its fight to ensure good governance in Kwara, regardless of the alleged threat and intimidation of its members by any individual, group or agents.
It said several Igbomina communities, including Arandun, Share and Omu-Aran, lacked infrastructural facilities like good roads, pipe borne water, electricity and healthcare centres.
“It is when these politicians want our votes that they come here and promise us heaven on earth. After getting votes, they now turn their backs on the people.
“We can’t keep quiet in the face of oppression. Our people are being oppressed, and we must speak out the truth on their behalf.”
In a swift reaction, Dr Muideen Akorede, the senior special assistant to Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed on media and communications, described the allegations of threats against the group’s members as unfounded and untrue.
He said infrastructural facilities of the state were evenly spread, adding that three general hospitals have been upgraded in Share, Omuaran and Offa, in Kwara south Senatorial District.
