Generator theft lands bizman in prison
A 32-year-old businessman has been sentenced to two months imprisonment by an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for being in possession of two sets of generators suspected to be stolen.
Isah Abubakar of Dutse Alhaji was convicted for being in possession of stolen property, an offense contrary to section 319A of the Penal Code.
The police prosecutor, Kaura Arziki told the court that a team of police officers attached to Dutse Alhaji division, led by Supol Yahaya Bala, while on patrol, arrested the accused in possession of two sets of generators, including one sumec blue tiger generator and one stabilizer. He said the accused could not give satisfactory account of the said items during police investigation.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two months imprisonment by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with an option of N10,000 fine.
Similarly, a 26-year-old man was sentenced to two months imprisonment for being in possession of one 4” spink mattress suspected to be stolen.
Husein Mohammed of Pipeline, Kubwa, was convicted for being in possession of property suspected to be stolen, an offense contrary to section 319A of the Penal Code.
The police prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun told the court of how the accused was found in possession of one 4” spink mattress value yet to be ascertained reasonably suspected to be stolen. He said the accused, during police investigation, could not give satisfactory account of how he got the said items.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two months imprisonment by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with a fine option of N20,000.
