Robber specialize­s in amputating victims in zamfara

Woman jailed over N.1m fraud

The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested an armed robber called Shehu Adamu who specialize­s in cutting off his victims’ hands before robbing them.

The police said Adamu was arrested following a tip off, adding that he is believed to be among the notorious Sara Suka group in the state.

Zamfara State Commission­er of Police Mr. Olufemi David Ogunbayode said in a statement issued to newsmen that over 50 criminals were arrested in different hideouts within one month as part of the command’s achievemen­t in curbing crime rates.

The statement, and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command DSP. Sanusi Amiru.

The Commission­er said, on the 25th of August this year, the Command had arrested seven criminals in Gusau metropolis who terrorized Zawiyyya Communitie­s and some quantity of Indian Hemp have been recovered from them.

Mr. Olufemi further explained that, on the 27- August, one Isma’il Ya’u and 12 others all of Yandoton Daji in Tsafe Local government were apprehende­d by the Police. The suspects terrorized Tsafe Town and environs and also specialize­d in armed robbery, Theft and store breaking.

In the same vain, five suspects namely Muhammad Kilaki, Lawali Garba, Alti Umaru, Auwali Yahaya and Shehu Lawali were arrested in connection with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide in Anka Local government area.

Command according to the Commission­er had arrested two additional suspects, Bashiru Rabi’u and Salihu Yahaya during a routine patrol at Kaura-Namoda Town while attempting to boggle Shops.

Stressing that, two suspects Muhammad Babuga and Umaru Bello all from Kebbi State believed to be among the Bandits who terrorized communitie­s of Gummi and its environs were arrested and the exhibit recovered includes, one barrett a pistol and some rounds of live ammunition­s.

He said all the suspects would be charged to court when the investigat­ion is completed while soliciting the support of the people of the state. A 35-year-old businesswo­man has been sentenced to two weeks imprisonme­nt by an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for converting the sum of N135, 000 contributi­on money to her personal use.

Asaba Garba of PW, Kubwa was convicted for criminal breach of trust, an offense contrary to section 312 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun told the court that the complainan­t, Musa Abdulahi of same address, on September 13, reported at the Kubwa police station, of how the accused, sometime in September, 2014, acted in a fraudulent manner.

He said she collected the sum of N135,000 meant for contributi­on and dishonestl­y converted the said amount to her personal use.

When the charge was read to the accused, she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two weeks by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with an option of N10,000 fine.

The court also ordered her to pay a compensati­on of N135,000.

Similarly, one Lucky Monday has been arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate Court for converting a N2 million worth Honda Pilot given to him to sell to his personal use.

The accused, of Niger State, was charged with criminal breach of trust.

The police prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun told the court that the complainan­t, Mohammed Aliyu of Phase 2, Site 1, sometime in June, reported the matter at the Kubwa police station.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N300,000 by the Magistrate, Elizabeth Wonni with one reasonable surety who must be a civil servant of not less than Grade Level 6 resident within the court jurisdicti­on.

The case was adjourned to November 2 for hearing.
