- By Ogechi Jaiyesimi

A driver suspected to have stolen his boss’s car and who also threatened to kidnap him (boss) has been arrested by the Utako police division.

A police source told our reporter that Chigozie Nwafor, a driver to one Abiodun Dauda Oladapo, allegedly stole his boss’s Toyota Hilux van with registration number 41F219FG when the went to Nasfat Mosque, Utako to pray.

The source said the complainant works with Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and that the driver has been with him for a long time and knows everything about him.

“The driver knows his house in Ibadan and also was aware that he goes to the mosque (Nafsat Utako) every Saturday and Sunday to pray and the driver knows his timing also.

“When he went to pray, after praying as he used to do, he discovered that his car was not where it was parked. He called his driver who he asked to go and rest after dropping him off in the mosque if he had come back for the car, the driver denied coming back for it. Afraid that his car has been stolen, he ran to the police station and reported that his car was stolen,” the source said.

City News gathered that as soon as he reported the case, the police suspected that the driver must have stolen the car, especially as they were told that the driver was planning a wedding.

The source added that shortly after, Oladapo started getting threatening messages that if he didn’t pay N3 million into a given account, he would be kidnapped.

“The man then came back to Utako police division and reported it, the police immediately tracked the number that was sending the SMS and discovered that it was a Tecno phone that was used.

“Last Monday, the driver came to sympathize with him and we requested for his phone, and discovered that it was the same phone that was sending the SMS. During interrogation, he confessed that he was acting alone.”

The suspect said his boss was stingy with money and that was why he stole his car and plotted the kidnap.
