El-Rufai approves tournament for grassroots football clubs

Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has given approval for grassroots football tournament in Local Government Areas of the state as a way of re-awakening sporting activities in the state.

The Commissioner for Sports, Youth and Culture, Daniel DanAuta disclosed this when executive members of Kaduna state chapter of the Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

He also disclosed that the state government has concluded arrangement to restore grassroots sports, community sports and school sports development in the state as panacea to the dwindling fortune of sports in the state.

“There has never been a national team without Kaduna based player and we want to maintain that trend. When you pick national team players and athletes for handball, basketball, cricket, athletics, you will find one or more of them that originated or is based in Kaduna state”.
