Buhari, others pray at Daura Eid ground

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday joined the Muslim faithful for Eid-el-Kabir prayers at Kofar Arewa Eid ground around 9.30 a.m. in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.

Shiek Safiyanu Yusuf who led the prayers in his sermon urged Muslims to always abide by the teachings of the religion and prayed for the unity and peace of the nation.

According to him, the Eid calls for sacrifice of animals as ordained by Almighty Allah and urged the faithful to ensure they do so. The imam stressed the importance of sacrifice in Islam.

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouq, directed all mosques in the emirate to organise special prayers for peace and stability of the nation and prayed to Allah to continue to guide the president to lead the country well.

“We need to intensify prayers for peace and stability in the country because nothing can be achieved without peace,’’ he said.

Dignitarie­s who observed the Eid prayer at the same venue include the Director, Department of State Services (DSS), Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura and other prominent sons of the emirate including religious and traditiona­l leaders.

President Buhari and the emir slaughtere­d rams after the prayers at the Eid ground which had adequate security and the prayers ended peacefully. Buhari left Katsina at about 2.50 pm yesterday. Some notable persons on board the presidenti­al jet include Kayode Fayemi, Rotimi Amaechi and Senator Hadi Sirika.
