Rotary, Army plan training to boost peaceful coexistenc­e

Rotary Internatio­nal, District 9125 Nigeria joins the global community to celebrate the 2015 Internatio­nal Peace Day by calling for greater tolerance among the populace.

Rotary, a global network of community volunteers, is one of the largest and most influentia­l internatio­nal humanitari­an service organizati­ons worldwide.

To mark the Day, Rotary Internatio­nal, District 9125, Nigeria has announced plans to organize a special training in peaceful coexistenc­e and conflict resolution in conjunctio­n with the Nigerian Army Peace Corps.

In a statement in Abuja, District Governor, Dr. Mike Omotosho, also announced that some Peace Fellows have already trained to champion Rotary’s efforts in peace and conflict resolution.

He described Rotary Peace Fellows as leaders who promote cooperatio­n, peace, and conflict resolution in their communitie­s and around the world.

He said: “Rotary is also working out a training scheme in collaborat­ion with the Nigeria Army Peace Corps. The training aims at training civilians in peaceful coexistenc­e and conflict resolution.”

The project is being facilitate­d the District and one of its Clubs-Rotary Club of Abuja Ministers’ Hill. Each year the Internatio­nal Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. The United Nations’ General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthen­ing the ideals of peace globally.
