FCTA urged to apply the rule of law in land administration
The Federal Government has urged the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to apply the rule of law in all issues concerning compensation of original inhabitants, removal of illegal structures, general development control, infrastructural development and provision of social amenities in the capital city.
Speaking at the management retreat for Legal Services Secretariat of the (FCTA), Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said government must function within the law as provided by the constitution.
Osibanjo who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Barr, Ipaye Ade, said: “Issues of compensation to the original inhabitants, removal of illegal structures, general development controls, massive infrastructural developments, provision of social services such as schools and hospitals, and general land administration must be situated within extant laws using the traditional contract model as well as the new public private partnership approach.”
According to him the lawyers must be sincere in their interpretation of the law while advising the government, saying that they must be mindful that they were serving not just the administration but also the people.
Earlier, the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Engr. John Chukwu, said the retreat is borne out of the need to reinvigorate the secretariat to face up the challenges of providing top class legal services to the FCT and all its SDAs.
