That EHORECON Registrar’s appointment

-

The recent appointment of Mr Dominic Abonyi as the new Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria [EHORECON], is generating uproar and serious discontent among environmental health practitioners across the nation.

Before his appointment, the then EHORECON’s council members advertised the position in *Leadership* newspaper of 2nd July, 2015, which about six applicants applied, but before selection of the best among them [the new appointee inclusive], the federal government dissolved the council board members, and before you know it, Buhari’s government was misled to appoint one of the interested candidates against fair rule, to the disadvantage of other candidates.

If the appointment Mr Dominic Abonyi follows normal procedure, why should the information come from EHORECON’s press unit, not from the permanent secretary’s office or the Presidency?

In this case, it is alleged that the Federal Ministry of Environment unilaterally influenced through the husband of the permanent secretary to recommend the name of Dominic Abonyi as the new Registar unprofessionally, and the President unknowingly just approved it without further scrutiny, or perhaps to satisfy Igbos who think are not being carried along in this government.

Nobody is against Dominic Abonyi as a person, but against the procedure that produced him which is not in line with due process. If President

Muhammadu Buhari’s government believe in the rule of law, then certainly this appointment is faulty, illegal and fraud, hence, it should do the appropriate thing to correct it.
