- By Francis Arinze Iloani

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has warned Nigerians to desist from using counterfeit phones as they distort quality of service from network providers.

Speaking at the NCC Day held yesterday in Abuja at the ongoing 10th Abuja International Trade Fair, the acting Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Professor Umaru Garba Danbatta, said the Commission is collaborating with the Nigeria Customs Service and Standard Organisation of Nigeria to stop the importation of counterfeit devices into the country.

Danbatta, who was represented at the event by the Head, Media and Public Relations of the NCC, Reuben Muoka, advised Nigerians to visit the website of the Commission for list of approved devices before making a purchase.

“As part of the consideration about the interest of the consumers, the Commission has stepped up its efforts to monitor and improve quality of service in the industry,” he said.

He revealed that a task force has been inaugurated to identify and recommend appropriate lasting solutions to poor quality service being complained of by consumers of telecommunications.

ThePresidentoftheAbujaChamber of Commerce and Industry Limited (ABUCCI), Mr. Tony Ejinkeonye, applauded the NCC for its regulatory role in the telecommunications sector, adding that the sector has been the most successful of all the sectors of the economy deregulated by the federal government.

He advised Nigerians who are dissatisfied with services provided by network providers to come to the NCC pavillion at the Trade Fair Centre to lodge complaints for speedy resolution.
