Kwara police call for collaborat­ive efforts over cybercrime Court jails 3 for stealing

Three men, Lawal Mustapha, 21, Anas Musa, 23, and Aliyu Nasir, 18, all of Sango area, Ilorin, have been sentenced to 11 months imprisonme­nt each for stealing fittings of an uncomplete­d building belonging to one Baba Haliru Sani.

Magistrate M.K. Aluko sentenced them to the jail terms to be served at the Federal Prison,Oke-Kura, Ilorin, after they were found guilty of trespassin­g into another person’s building and stealing his property.

The court sentenced each of them to two months imprisonme­nt with an option of N5, 000 fine for the offence of criminal conspiracy, three months imprisonme­nt with an option of N5, 000 fine for the offence of trespass, another three months imprisonme­nt with an option of N10, 000 fine for the offence of theft, while that of mischief attracted three months imprisonme­nt with option of N5, 000 fine.

It was gathered that the case was reported on September 12, that the accused persons criminally trespassed into a building under renovation at Unique Hotel Area, Tanke, Ilorin, where they vandalised the building and stole all the electrical appliances.

The complainan­t had added that they jumped through the fence into the building and stole all the items, which they used a big sack to pack and pretended to be scavengers before they were accosted by the police and the items were recovered from them.

The prosecutio­n said, “Investigat­ion conducted at the ‘F’ Divisional police

headquarte­rs, Tanke, Ilorin, revealed that the accused passed the night at the building in order to carry out the nefarious act.

It was gathered that the accused confessed to the crime, adding that they were members of a syndicate who pretend as scavengers to break into people’s houses.

The offences for which they were convicted contravene­d sections 97, 348, 287 and 327 of the penal code.
