Plight of Patigi LGA
We write on behalf of the people of Patigi Local Government Area in Kwara state to congratulate Your Excellency on your 100 days as the President of Nigeria. Your victory is a dream come true for our community. The people of Patigi have always identified with your aspiration since 2003 up to the last elections. Our voting pattern has never changed because like our brothers in some other parts of the Northern Region, the merit of your ambition was understood by our people.
Your Excellency, the entire people of Patigi Local Government Area have a number of appeals targeted at achieving the dreams of our people. We are hardworking farmers and fishermen and our livelihood revolves around our natural endowments of fertile land for agricultural activities and abundant rivers for fishing reserve.
Patigi LG is in the middle belt, linking the North and the South. Despite having the capacity to feed the nation and contribute to its wealth, Patigi LGA is practically cut off from the entire country because of lack of good road networks and necessary bridges. If the federal government can assist in the construction of bridge across the confluence of Rivers Niger and Kaduna and re-construction of the roads linking Patigi to Bida (North); Patigi to Ilorin (West), this will reduce the congestion on Jebba-Mokwa road, Abuja-Lokoja road and thousands of lives lost through road accident will be drastically reduced.
This laudable request will also boost the socioeconomic activities of Nigeria as a whole. The rehabilitation of the Tsaragi - Gbugbu-Patigi road was commenced by FERMA in 2013 but the Agency had since stopped work on this important road. Also, no meaningful construction work has been done on the Nupeko-Bida road which was also awarded to AECC Construction Company limited, by the immediate past administration.
This appeal will not be complete without urging the Nigerian government to also consider completing the Patigi station of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). Millions of naira had been invested in the project but as we speak, it has remained in the same stage it was some 12 years ago. It has not been completed, much less commissioning. We are therefore appealing to the governments at all levels to please consider the money already invested and the benefits such project will bring not just to the community but the entire country.
On behalf of the People of Patigi LGA, we implore Your Excellency to upgrade The Government Technical College Patigi, formerly known as Patigi Craft School. This College is one of the first vocational institutes before the independence of Nigeria and has graduated hundreds of engineers and technicians within and outside Nigeria today. We appeal to your Excellency to grant our request so that the Government Technical College Patigi is also upgraded like others in its status to a University, Polytechnic or College of Education.
Moreover, since change is the most constant thing in life, which goes in line with the slogan of your party, All Progressive Congress (APC), we strongly believe that your re-emergence as the President of our great country Nigeria will bring about the long awaited positive changes in the lives of Nigerians. The aforementioned appeals if granted shall improve the standard of living of the people of Patigi Local Government Area and boost the economic development of Nigeria at large.
