Unite against insecurity – Abdulsalami
Former Head of State, retired Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, yesterday urged Nigerians to unite in the fight against insecurity.
He spoke shortly after declaring open a stakeholders’ security meeting organised by the Abdulsalami Abubakar Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development Studies (AAIPSDS) and Pan-African Strategic and Policy Group (PANAFSTRAG) at Maizube Farms in Minna yesterday.
He said ending insurgency was a collective responsibility, adding: “Our country today is bedevilled by all types of insecurity, from kidnapping to Boko Haram and all sorts of terrorism. This is an issue that should involve every Nigerian. We all must assist the government and security agencies to find a solution and the way forward on how to curb this menace.
“That is why we have come together to brainstorm to come up with a lasting solution. We have invited retired and serving military personnel, traditional rulers who are the ones in grassroots and people from North East who are at the receiving end of terrorism to share their experiences to help us look at the issue in totality and come up with a lasting solution”.
“We can’t leave the solution to insecurity to the government or our leaders alone to fight this menace”, he added.
Present at the meeting were retired Generals Abdulraham Danbazau and Ishola Williams. Also present were the Emir of Minna Dr. Faruk Bahago and the Shehu of Bama, Alhaji Kyari Umar ElKanemi.
