PDP queries Ambode’s N3.8bn road projects
Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected a claim by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode that his administration had spent over N3.8 billion within three months to rehabilitate some roads in Lagos.
The party described the claim as “very dishonest, laughable and corruption.”
The PDP also challenged Governor Ambode to probe companies such as Alpha Beta, Drain Ducks, among others as being demanded by the people.
The party in a statement by its spokesman, Taofiq Gani, also challenged the governor to give the list, pictures and specific cost of the roads so rehabilitated.
The party insisted that failure to make the details of the projects available, the antigraft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should wade in and probe the governor’s claim.
Ambode reportedly made the claim during a town hall meeting with the people of the Lagos West Senatorial District held at Abesan.
The party, which described the town hall meeting as diversionary, reiterated that the claim smacks of corruption and looting of the treasury.
According to the statement, “By this claim, facts within our folds are being confirmed that Governor Ambode is currently siphoning the state treasury in order to offset his financial undertakings to the god fathers who masterminded his controversial electoral victory.
“How on earth can roads’ rehabilitation in Mainland cost that much? The cumulative length of the portions of the roads is not up to 1km.
“Governor Ambode should invite the media, opposition political parties and NGOs to a tour of his projects. He should take the people to his projects and not take the projects on paper to the people,” the party added.
