Didi sees bright future for para-soccer
President of Para-soccer Federation of Nigeria, Alhaji Misbahu Lawan Didi has said the future of the sport he invented is looking very bright and encouraging.
Speaking to sports journalists at this year’s finals of the National Parasoccer tournament in Abuja, the happy president said with going by the support and attention the sport is reviving, it is bound to go places.
He said the 3rd edition of the tournament received tremendous support from many quarters especially the Rotarry Club and the National Sports Commission.
Didi assured that the federation will continue to work assiduously towards taking the sport beyond the shores of the country to make it an international sport.
He said “From the response to our needs for this year’s tournament, I can confidently say the future of this sport is very bright and I am really happy about it.
“We received all the necessary support to make this a huge success. Our partners Rotary Club and the National Sports Commission have all been wonderful. MTN also supported us in a very positive manner.
“Looking at all these, I have every cause to be happy because my dream for the sport is coming to pass. We shall continue to strive towards making para-soccer an international sport. We want to see para-soccer feature at the Paralympics”.
Did I also dropped the hint that there are plans by the federation to introduce female para-soccer.
He said it is a gradual process but it will be nice to have the female survivors of polio taking part in the sport which has gone a long way in giving meaning to the lives of the male athletes.
