Speakers make case for agricultur­e

Farmers, agricultur­e businessme­n and women and other stakeholde­rs in the Nigerian agricultur­al sector in their large numbers graced the 1st Daily Trust agricultur­e conference, which began yesterday in Abuja.

Agro-allied companies were on hand to showcase their latest technologi­es at the event.

Olam Nigeria, one of the country biggest multinatio­nal actors in the nation’s rice industry showed strong presence with the various products from their stable. Another rice miller who showcased their products were the Stine Industries Ltd, makers of “Stinerice Gold” one of the newest entrants into the rice industry.

On the dairy front, Nagari Dairy Farm also showed strong presence with its products and the new flour produced from the farm’s new mill.

In the same vein, the Kaduna federation of Milk Producers Cooperativ­e Associatio­n (MILCOPAL NIG Ltd) stormed the event with pasteurize­d fresh milk, sweet yoghurt and quality butter.

Fish farmers were also not left out with some of them bringing their new innovation­s and technologi­es to the conference for exhibition.

Myra Fish Centre took participan­ts through some of the notable modernizat­ion they have in fish processing. Some of their products include smoked diced catfish, smoked curved catfish, smoked catfish filets, and fresh catfish fillet.

Notore, one of the biggest fertilizer producers was also on hand with their latest fertilizer in the industry to introduce to the participan­ts. Many farmers were schooled on how the new technology works.

Seed producers like Capital Agricultur­al Developmen­t Limited displayed the various new improved varieties they have for interested farmers. Their technologi­es according to them are designed for different agro-ecological zones of the country.

Farmers’ associatio­ns that were at the events with their products include Federation of Agricultur­al Commodity Associatio­n of Nigeria (FACAN), whose members presented many of their value added products.

The orange-fleshed sweet potato farmers also took participan­ts through many of their products and technologi­es.

Producers of various Bee products also showcase their products.

Bank of Agricultur­e, Nigeria Agricultur­al Insurance Corporatio­n (NAIC), Jaiz Bank were all on ground to inform participan­ts of services they can offered in the industry.

The conference, which ends today, will see more exhibitors meeting their target audience in order to build more networks in the sector.
