Nigeria should first produce CAF president - Kaave
Former board member of the then Nigeria Football Association, NFA, Ambassador Chive Kaave has said Nigeria’s priority should be to produce the next president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The immediate past Ambassador of Nigeria to Argentina was speaking to Daily Trust on the ongoing hues and cries over the failure of Nigeria to produce a candidate in the February 26, 2016 FIFA presidential election.
Kaave, a former chairman of the once dreaded BCC Lions of Gboko said Nigeria should first aspire to produce the next president of CAF.
He said if a Nigerian becomes president of CAF, he would have a more realistic chance of becoming FIFA president, maintaining that the road to FIFA’s exalted seat is normally through the presidency of the regional football bodies as he explained further that regional presidents are usually vice-presidents of FIFA.
The former Benue State Commissioner of Justice also said with their pedigree, Odegbami and Kalu can go for CAF presidency and from there vie for FIFA presidency.
“First Nigeria should work hard to produce the next CAF president. We have the people who are ably qualified to lead CAF.
“It will interest you to know that regional presidents are automatically vice-presidents of FIFA. Once we are able to produce CAF president, Nigeria will have a strong voice in FIFA,” he noted.
