4 killed as car runs into trailer at Kwaita village

Four persons lost their lives while two others sustained serious injuries after a car bumped into a stationery trailer Sunday evening at Kwaita village, on the AbujaLokoj­a expressway.

A witness said the incident happened around 8:23p.m.when an over speeding Volkswagen car without registrati­on number coming from Lokoja axis overtook another vehicle dangerousl­y and hit the trailer from behind.

He said the driver and three other people died on the spot after they were trapped inside the car, adding that the rescue team of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), came to the scene to evacuate the corpses to hospital.

When contacted, Yangoji unit commander of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Commander, Joseph Ezeh, confirmed the accident, attributin­g it to dangerous driving and speed limit violation.

He said six persons were involved in the accident, in which four, comprising a male adult, two females and a child lost their lives, saying their corpses have been deposited at Kwali General Hospital.

He said the two injured victims were also taken to the same hospital for treatment, adding that some luggage belonging to the victims were taken to the command for safekeepin­g.

The FRSC commander further disclosed that five people were injured in another motor accident which occurred on Friday afternoon near Kwaita market junction, on the Abuja-Lokoja road.

He said the accident happened around 3:17p.m. when the driver of a Golf car with registrati­on number GWA 241AA, on top speed, suddenly lost control of his steering after one of the tyres burst and crashed into a ditch.

He said the injured passengers were taken to Kwali General Hospital for treatment.
