Katsina indicts 6 officials over missing trucks

- From Habibu Umar Aminu, Katsina

Six local government officials in Katsina State have been found wanting in connection to two missing trucks valued at about N30 million.

The officials are two former council chairmen of Bindawa local government, Sirajo Doro and his Kusada counterpart, Mansur Murnai and their directors of works, Usman Ma’aji and Sani Musa and Drivers, Yau Musa and Abdulmalik Mudi.

Daily Trust gathered that the purported missing trucks said to have been confiscated by members of Boko Haram in Yobe State were the trucks being used for field work.

The trucks were part of the N1.6 billion feeder road construction equipment bought for the 34 councils in the State by former President, late Umaru Musa when he was governor.

The state governor, Aminu Masari had already directed the state ministry of local governments to recover the vehicles and prosecute those involved.

The commissioner of local government, Abdulkadir Zakka said the ministry would not leave any stone unturned in recovering the trucks or its monetary equivalent.

According to him, from their preliminary investigation, the affected officers were said to have leased out the trucks to a firm who in turn took them where they were confiscated. He said there was an existing order against leasing the trucks outside the respective councils.
