A42-year-old man, identified as Moses Shadrack, has been arrested for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl at Pegni village, Kuje Area Council.

A resident of the community, who preferred anonymity, said the incident happened last Saturday evening in an uncompleted building at the community.

He said the accused, who was a security guard at an estate in the village, allegedly lured the girl with a token and took her inside one of the uncompleted building’s and defiled her.

He said the mother of the girl, who sold provisions in a kiosk, raised an alarm after she went in search of her daughter and discovered the man half naked inside the uncompleted building with her.

“You know any time the man wants to buy snacks or sachet water from the woman’s shop, she sometimes gives it to the girl to take it to the man. That Saturday, he asked the woman to give the girl water and bread to take to him. He used the opportunity to lure the girl and defiled her, “the witness said.

He said a mob, most of them commercial cyclists, got wind of the incident and almost lynched the accused but for the intervention of some elders.

He was then taken to the police station at Kuje.

The Kuje Divisional Police Officer (DPO) could not be reached for comments, as his phone was not connecting at the time of filing this report, but a police officer at the station confirmed the incident, saying the accused will be charged to court after investigations were concluded. A 28-year-old barman has been arraigned before an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for allegedly impersonating a police officer and defrauding his hotel in Kubwa, Abuja.

Nonso Anene of Arab Road, Kubwa, was charged under sections 309 and 179 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor, John Akpan, told the court that the complainant, Omonsuekpea Famous, of Sabbet Hotel, on June 24, reported at the Kubwa Police Station that the accused acted in a fraudulent manner and misappropriated the sum of N31, 800 realised from sales.

He said a police warrant card bearing Insp. Elogbo Eneng which the accused used to parade himself as a police officer to unsuspecting members of the public was found in his possession during police investigation.

When the charges were read to the accused person, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with a reasonable surety who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned August 23 for hearing. to
