NFF allays Nigerians’ Russia 2018 panic

- By David Ngobua

@Ngobuadavid Although most Nigerians are of the opinion that the Super Eagles won’t qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi yesterday said there is no cause for alarm.

Immediately Nigeria was drawn in the same World Cup qualifying group with the highest ranked African nation, Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia in Group B, most Nigerians concluded that the Eagles won’t survive the group.

However, in a chat with Daily Trust yesterday, Sanusi assured Nigerians that their darling Super Eagles will pick the sole group ticket to fly to Russia in 2018.

He said the NFF would do everything within its powers to prepare the team for the qualifiers.

“Nigerians should not entertain any fear. Although we respect all the teams in the group, we are not afraid of any of them.

“We would do everything humanly possible to ensure that the Super Eagles qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

The NFF scribe therefore charged Nigerians to keep supporting and praying for the national team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

“What we need is the support and prayers of all well-meaning Nigerians.

“By the special grace of God, before the commencement of the qualifiers, the Super Eagles will have a substantive coach to prosecute the qualifiers and lead the team to Russia in 2018,” he assured.

The Super Eagles will be gunning for the sixth World Cup appearance since making their debut in the 1994 edition in the USA.

Already the Eagles have failed to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Gabon.
