- From Dotun Omisakin, Lagos

A former Nigeria goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu has been appointed as goalkeeper trainer of Lagos-based Nigeria Professional Football League club - Ikorodu United.

Shorunmu, alongside the new assistant coach Shakiru Giwa would work together with the former Dutch international Theodorus Jacob de Jong who took over from Sam Okpodu last week to continue the fight against relegation.

“The management of Ikorodu United is glad to announce the addition of new assistant coach and goal keeper trainee, Shakiru Giwa and Ike Shoromu,” the statement from the team read.

Media Manager of Ikorodu United, Babatunde Ayoola told our correspondents that the new appointees have agreed to team up to save the club from returning to the second tier of the Nigerian football league.

He said the management believes in their capacities and believes that four straight victories will save the Oga Boys from relegation.

“Yes, at this stage, we believe in them and we will stick to their instruction because four straight victories will take us out of regulation”, Ayoola said.

It could be recalled that Ikorodu United FC has changed two coaches within seven month.

There are 14 NPFL matches that are left to end this season, with the Oga Boys set to face local rival - MFM on Sunday at the Agege Stadium.
